Kerouartz de Basseville

Family origins would Kerouartz an English knight, Auralus Houart Miles, sent in 1164 by the King of England to the aid of Duke Conan IV of Brittany, which would have built a castle-Ker Houart whose name would eventually be transformed in "Kerouartz". This castle was originally built in the parish of Landéda but destroyed several times by the English, it was rebuilt in Lannilis, about 3 km from its location primitif1.
In 1669, the family is recognized Kerouartz "lord of the said place, Keringarz, Fosse, the Coulm of Laurenlemen of Keranroux of Bergoët and Ploudiner in Lannilis; of Kermarho, Isle, lord of Basseville, of Lézérazien and Lomenven in Guiclan; de Penhoet in St. Thégonnec; of Kerthomas of Penvern and Lomélar in Plounéventer; City-Aubrey and Lossulien in Guipavas; Wood-Boixel of Kermellec of Coateozen in Landouzan; of Kergroadez in Plourin "2.
In 1789, three family members of Kerouartz participate in elections of deputies of the nobility to the Estates General: Alexander Kerouartz, Jacques-Joseph Kerouartz and Jacques-Louis-François-Marie Toussaint Kerouartz3.
Kerouartz Castle was sold as national property during the French Revolution.


Les origines

La famille de Kerouartz aurait pour origines un chevalier anglais, Auralus Houart Miles, envoyé en 1164 par le roi d'Angleterre au secours du duc Conan IV de Bretagne et qui aurait construit un château Ker-Houart dont le nom se serait par la suite transformé en "Kerouartz'". Ce château aurait été initialement construit dans la paroisse de Landéda, mais détruit à plusieurs reprises par les Anglais, il aurait été reconstruit à Lannilis, à environ 3 km de son emplacement primitif1.
En 1669, la famille de Kerouartz est reconnue « seigneur du dit-lieu, de Keringarz, de la Fosse, du Coulm, de Laurenlemen, de Keranroux, de Bergoët et de Ploudiner, en Lannilis ; de Kermarho, de l'Isle, seigneur  de Basseville, de Lézérazien et de Lomenven en Guiclan ; de Penhoët en Saint-Thégonnec ; de Kerthomas, de Penvern et de Lomélar, en Plounéventer ; de la Ville-Aubray et de Lossulien en Guipavas ; de Bois-Boixel, de Kermellec, de Coateozen, en Landouzan ; de Kergroadez, en Plourin »2.
En 1789, trois membres de la famille de Kerouartz participent aux élections des députés de la noblesse aux États généraux : Alexandre de Kerouartz, Jacques-Joseph de Kerouartz et Jacques-Louis-François-Marie-Toussaint de Kerouartz3.
Le château de Kerouartz fut vendu comme bien national pendant la Révolution française.
